AT CAMP ABC…

campers cheer each other on while learning to swim, trying a new activity like drumming or archery — or at evening activities like the talent show or a beach party at the camp lake. Campers tell us that Camp ABC is special because it is where they can always be themselves.

Camp ABC has a Leaders-in-Training program for 13 – 15 year olds. Many girls grow up with camp as a special part of their life – and grow with The Fresh Air Fund from campers to counselors. The camp focuses on personal growth and leadership, helping girls develop self-confidence and discover their potential.

I remember once I finished my first summer as a camper, I became a lot more confident. I’m from New York, so my goal as a counselor is to inspire the kids and motivate them in the ways my counselors did for me. The community is just perfect – it makes you feel at home. Camp ABC is the best place to be!

This is my second summer, and this time is even better than last year! I kept in touch with the girls I met last year! My advice to a new camper would be to listen to your counselors! They’re really fun and here to help.

This is my first year at camp. It’s really, really fun! My favorite activity is when we went to the farm – the goat was my favorite! All the counselors are so kind and encouraging. I would tell my friends to come with an open mind because you’re going to do a lot of new things and you’re going to make a lot of new friends.

I really love the friends that I have made here, getting to learn new things, going hiking and doing team-building activities. This summer I’m a CIT for the first time, so I’m excited to connect with the campers, create the safe space they deserve and be the role model that my counselors were for me.

Accommodations:

Campers live in cabins with separate restroom and shower facilities that are located a short distance from each cabin.

The Precious Center for Teen Leadership

The Precious Center is home to Camp ABC’s Teen Leadership program and was created with the generous support of The Gary Magness Family Foundation. Sarah Siegel-Magness and Gary Magness were inspired by producing the film Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire.

The program provides young women, ages 13 to 17, with a supportive environment to focus on their future goals. Through writing workshops, poetry slams, team building and leadership workshops, participants become more independent and self-confident.
