Macey Family Summer Story

The Macey family of Crown Point, NY has looked forward to welcoming 10-year-old Chad Stephens into their home each summer since 2006.  Their activities together include swimming, biking, paddle-boating, frog catching and baseball, but most of all, they enjoy welcoming back someone who has become a part of the family.

The Macey family and Chad took time to reflect on their experiences together.

What is your favorite activity to do with Chad?

Play outside together!

What was the funniest thing that happened during Chad's visit?

It was really funny when we were catching frogs.

Are you looking forward to Chad's visit next summer?

Yes, because he's my best friend!

What can you do when visiting the Maceys that you can't do in New York City?

I can go outside at any time!

What is your favorite thing about being outdoors?

I like to play a lot of games and eat s'mores.

What was the funniest thing that happened during your visit this summer?

When I slipped in the mud while playing outside.

When you got home, what did you tell your friends about your vacation?

I told them about how much fun I had!

How are you and Chad alike?

We both love to play sports!

How does being a part of The Fresh Air Fund make you feel?

It makes me feel very happy because the children get "fresh air."

Why should other kids have Fresh Air brothers and sisters?

Because they are really fun!

What was something that surprised you most about Chad during his first visit?

I was surprised that he had never felt grass under his bare feet.

How do your children and Chad get along?

They are like brothers.

What do you look forward to when Chad visits?

We look forward to his laugh and his smile.

Do you remain in contact with Chad throughout the year?

Yes - we talk on the phone about once a week!

Why do you think hosting has been a good experience?

Chad has become like a member of our family. If you are interested in hosting, do it! Your family will benefit more than the Fresh Air child.
