The Fresh Air Fund

Sakidra Irvin

Sakidra Irvin looks forward to her time at The Fresh Air Fund’s Camp Hidden Valley every year. For the past four years, she has spent two weeks every summer enjoying the outdoors and escaping city life. “It’s a lot of fun. I look forward to it every year.”

Sakidra’s time at Hidden Valley never fails to present her with a new experience. When she was exposed to hiking her first summer, she discovered a fondness for the outdoors. This past summer she learned how to fish and about the concentration it requires. “I learned that when you fish, you have to be sure to stay very quiet so that you don’t scare all of the fish away and I caught two fish.”

In fact, it was Camp Hidden Valley that exposed Sakidra to a new love: theatre. While at camp, Sakidra participates in the theatre classes and enjoys performing various skits and short scenes. According to Sakidra, theatre is by far the best activity, because, “it lets me express myself.” When asked if she were planning on returning to Hidden Valley next summer, she responded, “Definitely, I’m already looking forward to it.”
