The Fresh Air Fund

Keyaira and the Shaak Family

For four years the Shaak family has welcomed Keyaira McCorley into their home, strengthening a relationship with a very special girl. Host parents Robert and Kelly, as well as Keyaira’s host sister Kelsey, have all been impressed by how quickly the girl from Queens has taken to life in Quakertown, Pennsylvania, and by how much of an impact she has had on their family.

The Shaak family and Keyaira took time to reflect on their experiences together.

What do you like to do when Keyaira visits?

We all play out in our backyard, ride bikes, pick peaches and blueberries, go swimming and have picnics and parties with friends and family.

 Why do you enjoy hosting?

It’s a very special time. I am always impressed by Keyaira’s courage and flexibility and “go with the flow” personality when she is with us.

How has your family been affected by the Friendly Town program?

We have met someone so lovely and have been able to share so much with her. Everyone learns and everyone benefits. It's a wonderful program!
