Newsroom

The Fresh Air Fund relies on the generous support of national and local print, radio, television and online news outlets to tell our organization's story. During the spring and summer months, in particular, we ask the media to publicize our Friendly Town program and feature volunteer host families who all have heartwarming memories and stories. Please keep an eye out for The Fresh Air Fund in your local area!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SUPPORT THE FRESH AIR FUND AND GIVE INNER-CITY CHILDREN A SUMMER TO LOOK FORWARD TO!

Remember your summer vacations? Doesn’t every child deserve that kind of fun? Since 1877, The Fresh Air Fund has provided free summer experiences, with volunteer host families and at Fund camps, to more than 1.7 million youngsters from disadvantaged communities.

The holiday season is the perfect time to think about becoming a volunteer host family to an inner-city child or to support The Fresh Air Fund through a charitable gift. Fresh Air host families are volunteers who live in the suburbs, small town communities, or on farms, and share the desire to open their hearts and homes to give city children a summer they will never forget. Hosts often say the Fresh Air experience is as enriching for their own families, as it is for the inner-city children. For the children who visit, the simple pleasures of summertime fun create lasting memories – swimming in a lake, roasting marshmallows, riding bikes, and making new friends.

Whether it’s a two-week trip to the country to visit a volunteer host family, or a fun-filled and educational stay at Fresh Air camps, The Fund’s programs make for unforgettable memories – and open a world of new friendships and possibilities, outside of the confines of city streets.

Please contact The Fresh Air Fund at 1-800-367-0003 or visit www.freshair.org to sign up to become a volunteer host family or to donate online. The Fresh Air Fund is an independent not-for-profit agency. In 2010, close to 5,000 children visited volunteer host families in 13 states, from Virginia to Maine and Canada. In addition, 3,000 young people enjoyed camp, and 2,000 participated in year-round camping.
